You have a valid point here. But there's a difference between limiting you to a reasonable boundary and entirely removing a feature that is used by many and, even more importantly, makes sense to have in the game as it is.

I have yet to see one good reason that being able to compare items by default is too powerful.

That's pretty much it, except full agreement with Bubba. This suggestion (and the arguments for it) make no sense. I mean, really? "some evil plan with it" is not exactly applicable to a suggestion for a Minecraft mod.
