Keep data on reloads on a turtle upgrade

Hello, back again with another question. How would I store variables in a turtle upgrade, I know that normal peripherals extend TileEntity so they have access to the writeToNBT() and readFromNBT() methods, but how could this be done for turtle upgrades?
