--[[
If you didn't know, I'm gonna make this mod in case dan200 doesn't implement this idea.
]]--

I was talking to MegaBuilder4458 about RAM and Hard Drives when this idea came up: Better PC's

There would be 3 levels of componements (Home, Work and Optimised) which require more expensize items down the line.

List of parts:

RAM (64KB, 128KB, 512KB)
Hard Drive (512KB, 1024KB, 2048KB)
Processors (H3 W5, O7)
Disk Port (Home, Work, Optimised)
Wireless Modem (Low Range, Medium Range, High Range)
Motherboard (Home, Work, Optimised)

Tell me what you think!

EDIT: I toned down the amount the hard drive and the ram is. I also removed quite a few of the other options.

You might be interested in OpenComputers, as it implements a system somewhat along those lines.

I think some new modern "ish" computers had been fine.. Like computer screens in these days.. I am planning to make a Airport in minecraft and have computercraft stuff and things.. but the screens are too big, so it dousent fit... It whould been great to have a new modern style in computercraft..

  • What would RAM do?
  • How would you ever fill up even the smallest hard drive (64MB)?
  • What would different processors do?
  • What would different sound cards do?
  • Since speakers don't exist, what would sound cards do at all?
  • What would different graphics cards do?
  • Since pixels aren't happening, ever, does that mean the best graphics card has to be the same as what we have now?
  • Does that mean the cheaper graphics cards are even worse than what we have now?
  • What do the different disk ports do?
  • What's a disk port?
  • What happens if you put a disk drive next to a computer and don't have a disk port?
  • What do the different motherboards do?

(1) RAM will determine the amount of background processes it can run and also how much temporary memory it has. If you had 64KB RAM, it would only run 2 programs at once and only have 56KB temporary space whereas if you had 128KB RAM, it would run 5 programs at once and only have 96KB temporary space.

(2) I toned it down.

(3) Processors will determine how fast the computer will run. If you had a H3, it would be your everyday PC whereas a O7 would be for running games and tech geeks.

(4 - 8) Removed the idea.

(9 - 10) The disk ports allow you to have multiple disks at once. If you had a Home disk port, it would only have 1 disk slot, however, if you had a Work disk port, you would have 5.

(11) The disk port replaces the disk drive.

(12) The motherboards is WIP.

Instead of Optimized it should be called Enthusiast.
