[OOC]
How to join: read the readme, it will give you more instructions.

Disclaimer: Opinions expressed in character are those of the character. The player may not share the same opinion, if you have a dispute with an opinion of one of the characters or players then please PM the player who you have a dispute with and discuss it politely. Or just ignore them, that works too. If the discussion gets out of hand then their is a report button in PMs, I'm guessing that this will allow a moderator to step in a help negotiate, if that doesn't work then you can add people to the PM (May I suggest a moderator?) from the tools on the left of the PM screen.

Open Play: Periodically I may place NPCs in a state called open play, while in this state they can be controlled by anyone, including forum members who don't have a character. Please check the player rules briefly before posting, and have fun! Just a thing to note, it's a good idea to read the last few in character posts (these can be a page ago) to get an idea of what other characters are doing.

Visual Novel: Some of the players have decided to make a visual novel based on the things the characters do in game. H4X0RZ has taken lead on this side project and has provided the following github repository.

Lore Repository: It's all in this github repository, I'm hoping this will encourage more people to participate in world building than when it was on my google drive.

The wiki is ready for characters, so please port yourself.
If you go to https://github.com/C...ayer-Characters and click on your character's name, it will create the page with the correct name for you.
You will also need to follow the instructions on this page: https://github.com/C...racter-Template

Read Me
Players: please read the rules section and the questions in the EQ. (You don't have to read all the answers, but please read the questions so you know what they are. If you have one of those questions then please do read the answer.)

Instructions for character creation are here: https://github.com/C...ing-a-character

If you are a non-player reader (or audience member as I will now call you) then the only things you need to know are rules 1 and 2, namely keep it PG rated and if you want to comment on something then please use the OOC tags. To clarify, if you don't have a character then everything you post will have to be out of character, but you can still post (I can't see why you would need to, but I don't see any reason to prevent you).

If I update the OP then I will mention it in a new post.

A bard starts our story: “A place much like the one that I now share this tale, a particular inn is situated in a small village bearing the name Elarshi. It is said that the village is cursed, for it attracts all manner of evil. Others claim that it is blessed since the village receives plenty adventurers and mercenaries who are willing -or crazy- enough to visit and attempt to vanquish this evil.”

But for us, the story is still being written.

The inn is a small, dingy place. There are few patrons that look like they live locally. Packs and bags rest against wooden table legs, the owners of which are clearly armed and armoured in some fashion. The Innkeeper wears a sombre expression as he mindlessly wipes down the counter top.

“I’m about to turn in for the night,” The Innkeeper drowsily announces, “those who want a room or a drink had better...”

Interrupting, the door slams open. A shadowy figure staggers into the lantern light before collapsing onto his front. Through the dim lighting it can be seen that his back is pierced with over a dozen arrows.

Shocked, the Innkeeper rushes to the fallen traveller at the door. Checking the man's wounds, his face pales as he yells "Does anyone know how to treat arrow wounds? His breath is faint!".

A mage enters the scene from the back door: "Hmm, arrow wounds, eh? I don't know much about these things, but perhaps you could try removing the arrows and using a simple vulnerary to treat the wounds?"

"I'm but a simple Innkeeper. My knowledge of herbs is limited to those used in meals, I don't even know which herbs would have healing properties." Replies the Innkeeper.

The man on the floor groans.

"He's awake again. What happened to you?" The Innkeeper quickly asks, turning back to the fallen man.

Another groan, this time with a hint of words.

The Innkeeper puts his ear next to the man's face, "What about the graveyard?"

The man lifts his head from the floor. "The dead walk!" he exclaims loudly in a hoarse voice before collapsing to the ground with a groan.

"The dead walk? What could that mean?"

The mage thinks for a bit, then adds another question to the ever-growing list: "Maybe that's where he got shot down?"

"The graveyard is that way" the Innkeeper points into the night. "I assume that you are a mercenary."

"A sensible mercenary would look for reward and wait for morning before doing a job." Grunts a man in a shadowy corner, while ripping bites out of the cooked leg of some animal.

"A prepared mercenary would have torches for working at night." Yells back another with an overladen pack resting by his foot.

"Did he ask for your opinions?" An aged man rebuked. Turning to the mage with the strange hair colouring "Their advice is sound kid, but take some rest before your first adventure. You must have travelled a long way."

[OOC] To those who have created characters but not joined yet, just jump in whenever. [/OOC]

[OOC]Just waiting for the right moment when you guys are leaving to introduce myself and offer my services. BTW, as a small spoiler, I think I'm gonna take over that man in the shadowy corner gnawing on the leg of meat. He sounds like what my character would be doing in a moment like this.[/OOC]

A shadow-ish creature appears on a nearby roof, observing the Inn.

"Look at all these humans! So much fresh meat!"
*Sandwich punches against nirs own head*
"Whew! Ne really needed this! Looks like something's happening down there. Ne should keep nirs distance."
*Sandwich stares at the Inn*

[OOC]
Is there any neutral word I could use instead of "he/she","his/her","him/her"?

#EDIT: I decided to use "ne/nem/nir/nirs/nemself" as gender-neutral pronoun.

#EDIT2: I "fixed" this post to fit into the 3rd person "rule".

[OOC] They is used, but I've also seen xe used too, google gender neutral pronouns. [/OOC]

With assistance from some of the patrons, the Innkeeper moves the arrow covered man upstairs. The assisting patrons return to the main room with the Innkeeper presumably going to bed or keeping watch on his wounded visitor.

After a some time, people start to leave or fall asleep on the tables. Only of the more wealthy looking mercenaries a few go upstairs.

[OOC] Do we want to skip to morning? [/OOC]

As people start filtering out to the streets to their homes, or staggering to their rooms at the inn, only a few people are left in the common room; the mage, the gruff mercenary that spoke up earlier - still shrouded in shadows and drinking from a massive tankard, and several others who were too drunk or tired to leave after closing.
"You plan on going to graveyard, yes? You look like kind of fool who goes there just to find an adventure. Yes, I see it in your eyes. You are young fool, and fools must learn lesson the hard way. But you are also young, and the young must be taught. I come with you, protect you, yes?"

[OOC]Oh god, that accent is gonna kill me, but now I like it, and I'm gonna try to stick with it.[/OOC]

"I am called Nico." downing the rest of his drink, he stands up, grabbing his axe from beside him, and shouldering the massive weapon.
As he steps into the fading light of the lamps in the common room, he straightens up and the mage sees him clearly for the first time. Towering over the mage at over 7 feet tall, he looks down on the smaller one.
"And what do I call you, foolish cub?"

"You can call me Pulse, but I'm not as foolish as you might think at first glance," the mage says with a slight glint in his eyes. "My magic is, how do I say this... different from that of most people here..."

"Foolish for going alone. Foolish to go without weapon." Hefting his own weapon, he grins. "I trust nothing I can't hold in my own paws. Magic fails, my Sylvana does not."
Starting for the door, he calls back, "Come, Pulse. We go see what troubles this land. Perhaps you show me you are not so foolish, yes?"

Sandwich can see a mage and a big bear coming out of the Inn. Ne climbs down the house, and starts to silently follow them, trying to stay in the shadows.

"Ne doesn't care if they are enemies or friends. Either way ne might have some fun *with* them." *Ne giggles quietly*

[OOC] I think Sandwich will only speak in 3rd person now. Is that okay? [/OOC]

[OOC]Is your character supposed to be creepy? He really creeps me out.
Speaking in the third person would up that creep factor by a lot.[/OOC]

As the new comrades walk down the streets toward the outskirts of town, Nico whispers to Pulse, "Don't look, but we are being followed. Up on the rooftops. Friend of yours?"
