As some of you might be aware, the requests for comments are a series of documents that help to define how the internet works. I was thinking that we should establish rfc in computercraft. Post your ideas here.

RFC 1: File Metadata

Edit 9/15/2015

RFC 2: Terminal Redirection

RFC 3: File metadata for Graphical Shells

Edit 10/5/2015

RFC 4: A rednet networking api

There already are some RFCs on the forums.

About the metadata formats, last time I checked the only person to actually be using that is Lyqyd, in his LyqydOS. So if anyone's going to need to use a file metadata system then use this one, as it's already being in use.

The requests for comments don't describe file metadata, they describe how the internet works, as stated above.

Off-Topic: I didn't know file metadata standards existed for computercraft, thanks

Edit: Sorry, I was talking about requests for comments specific to the internet (how it works in the real world).

I don't think RFC is a defined term. It may apply not only to the internet but basicaly anything. It's literaly meaning would be a request for other people's comments and opinions about a certain idea.

Also, what exactly do you want to propose here? What kind of internet?

A way for computers to host webpages, transfer different types of data, ect.

Also, I ment like this however, I guess it could just be a list of general standards...

That gives me "Rugby Football Club", so no help there :P. RFCs are not exclusive to the IETF. PHP use them. The idea of asking people for feedback isn't that new :).

On a more practical note, standardising things doesn't work on the CC forums. It is a bit like herding cats - we're here to learn and experiment and so like to do things out own way.

RFCs are not limited to just one subject. They are, quite literally, a request for comments.

Oh, I thought they where just for the internet.

Anyway, post any suggestions (related to the internet or not) that you have.
