...colossal cave adventure, computer craft adventure...

In this forum game, let's pretend we're playing one of the great text adventure games of yore.
For each post, give a description of the outcome of the previous command, then give a command of your own. Make sure it looks like it's straight outta a text adventure too!

Here are some rules:
  • Don't prematurely end the game. That's no fun.
  • All responses and commands must be within CODE or HTML blocks.
  • Off-topic text must be outside a CODE or HTML block.
  • Text Adventures aren't cmd.exe. Don't use "echo" or whatever else.
In addition, there are some guidelines that would be nice to follow:
Spoiler

Time to set it up with a familiar screen! if you're a nerd

You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door.
There is a small mailbox here.

No, you're supposed to do the command and then say what happens after...but I'll finish it for now

MAIL SPILLS ONTO THE GROUND. OF ALL THE LETTERS, THERE IS A BIRTHDAY CARD FOR YOU! YOU DO NOT RECOGNIZE THE SENDER.

Honestly, I think the game would flow better the other way 'round: Say what happened after the last command, and add a new command for the next player to make up a response to.

You know what, I'll do it like that. That does sound a bit smarter.

YOU WENT INSIDE THE HOUSE'S FOYER.
THERE IS A HALLWAY WITH SEVERAL DOORS LEADING TO VARIOUS ROOMS. THERE IS A SUSPICIOUS
GRANDFATHER CLOCK IN THE CENTER OF THE ROOM, AND A VERY HEAVY BOX TUCKED IN THE CORNER.

OPEN BOX

TRY TO NOT PANIC!!! IS NOT RECOGNIZED AS AN INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL COMMAND, OPERABLE PROGRAM OR BATCH FILE.

GOTO HALLWAY.

Also, how was our guy able to make hot chocolate with nothing but an empty mug? Is he magic?

YOU WENT BACK IN THE FOYER.
THERE IS A HALLWAY TO THE NORTH WITH SEVERAL DOORS, AND A GRANDFATHER CLOCK IN THE CENTER
OF THE ROOM. YOUR VOICE IS GETTING *SLIGHTLY* BETTER, BUT YOU'RE NOT DOING KARAOKE ANY TIME
SOON. THE CHOCOLATE TASTED GOOD THOUGH.

BREAK MUG

The mug already had chocolate in it. The fact he's a wizard is irrelevant.

THERE ARE FOUR DOORS LABELED IN NUMERICAL ORDER (1-4).
THERE IS ALSO A WINDOW LEADING TO AN AIR VENT, BUT IT'S TOO SMALL TO FIT IN. NO JAMES
BOND FOR YOU.
