I'm in the latest version of CC for 1.7.10 and... Is this possible?

Wrap the modem using peripheral.wrap(side) and the use this.

Don't. It sucks and doesn't work. it did at one point but IPnet sucked and I gave up on it. It does have a successor, Delta. Still unreleased.

Instead, maybe look through the source code of FileNet and do the thing I recommended above.
