how do i enable indenting my i went to settings > preferences > editing > and turned on the indent but my code doesnt indent

If the file ends with a .lua extension, it should enable automatically. If no extension, you can go to the Language menu, to L, and to Lua.
Then just hit the tab key, and each time you hit enter it will remain indented at that point.
