I have never used turtles before so I don't know if this is possible, but can you get the item ID of the selected slot so you can make sure it has the right item? If you can't then it should be added because it is vital

No you can't and it wont be added since its really overpowered. however, Aperture Science Turtle Upgrades adds this ability, install it if you really want to check ID's.

or stick it into a misc peripherals sorter, tells you a kind-of ID too :3
