#269288 CCJam 2017 is here!

Posted by oeed on 27 August 2017 - 08:22 PM in General

Sorry I haven't given any feedback yet, I've been flat out with assignments and tests the past week and start of this week, I'll hopefully get something up in a few days.

I've got a question - what versions of ComputerCraft are we allowed to use? The latest 1.80? What about PR builds such as this one? Would it be possible to modify ComputerCraft itself as part of your submission?

Personally, as long as you say what version or provided the modified JAR I'm fine with whatever.

#268867 [RFC] Universal Compressed Graphics version 2

Posted by oeed on 08 August 2017 - 10:20 AM in General

In terms of printing maybe, but parsing the file, paintutils is quite a bit quicker. I was using UCG a lot in Quartz and I did find that with 'large' images (I'm talking 320 x 200) loading them did take a little while (over 100ms from memory). I'd imagine this was due to using the bit API though, rather than having native versions.

#268143 Computercraft is dying.

Posted by oeed on 09 July 2017 - 04:32 AM in General

I do agree with a lot of the sentiment here. I think loosing members over time as they move on is inevitable. You just start to want to do bigger better things on other platforms. There are probably a lot of factors at play, but I think the best way to get newer (and probably younger as a result) players is through mod packs. I first discovered CC on the original Technic pack and I know a large number of people would have too. I'm out of touch with the mod pack world now, but I would hazard a guess and say that maybe we need to try and get the mod integrated in to more mod packs again?

Ah, actually I found what I was referring to, "Codewars - Reloaded", back in early 2013 - http://www.computerc...oaded-round-2/.

My apologies for confusing it with CC Jam, but it does appear the concept is similar haha.

Yeah, I actually couldn't remember myself at first. You could kind of call it the prequel I guess.

Nice work! I'm actually rather surprised something like this hasn't been made before!

Fix crashes on craftos 1.7 please
OneOS isn't being developed anymore.
Which, means it isn't being fixed anymore.
Heck I might try getting it working again, no guarantees though.

Could you have had an option to obfuscate the code after installation, in the settings?? That might've worked...

Possibly, I did want to avoid obfuscating IIRC so errors (which were reporting automatically and rather common) could be fixed easier though.

#267044 Biggest app you've made/installed?

Posted by oeed on 15 May 2017 - 09:31 AM in General

I was actually really struggling with this when making OneOS. I can't remember exactly but from memory I think a full install used about 80% of the computer's capacity, so that's about 800KB. Issues where the computer ran out of space when updating started happening. In then end I think I had to start removing programs as I was reluctant to obfuscate the code. It was still usable though.

As a side note, the source for Silica is about 400KB and the source code for Quartz is 900KB, excluding Silica which it depends on. So basically it'd be impossible to fit it on a CC computer without changing the limit which kinda sucks for trying to port it. It might change with the new Luo compiler to be smaller, but it'd imagine it'll be bigger unfortunately.

#266875 ComputerCraft is now Open Source

Posted by oeed on 08 May 2017 - 09:50 AM in General

I don't have too much of an issue with this, but I thought I'd just make everyone aware of it.

From the license:

Daniel Ratcliffe will retain the right to re-license the mod, including your contributions, in part or in whole, under other licenses.

Not that I can see anything him doing anything malicious, but still worth keeping it in mind.

Here are some of my questions:
How to load the image in .skch format?
Are there some api that can load the image crated using Sketch?

No unfortunately there is not an API. It is a fairly simple format though, it's just a textutils serialised table with NFTs in it. I'd take a look at the code and reverse engineer it.

I logged in the other day and found that my base was now claimed by BTC and all my stuff had been taken from the chests. Given the time between when I was last on I am not overly surprised, but just wanting to know the best way to go about putting my stuff back to the way it was so I can hop back on?

A KS for the new thing isn't a terrible idea honestly.

I would 100% support you on Kickstarter. It's also a good way to allow people to contribute more if they're able. Some people mightn't be able to contribute more than a few dollars. Personally, given enough details about it I honestly think I would be willing to pay something like $50 - $100 to help.

The fact that you mentioned putting it on Steam is interesting. If it is a game, and even if it isn't really, it does make sense somewhat to get more customers. I wouldn't be completely set on relying on Steam though for something like this. By its very nature it is the kind of thing that people want to be flexible. That's why emulators were always in such demand. Having to run a game in order to work on a project (especially when on a laptop) can be a bit annoying.

Dan promised that after Redirection release,he will start working again on CC2.0 but dan gave no news about CC2.0 so i think CC2.0 is dead for good.
Its been almost 3 months since redirection and we hadnt any news about CC2.0 Progresa

Don't think that's really fair to say. He has added some new features to the Redirection arcade, so he might still be working on it. Also keep in mind that he might've simply not been working on anything if he's off on holiday or taking a break.

SwitchCraft's official currency has now been switched to Krist!
You can join SwitchCraft and trade with Krist today. If you don't have any, don't worry! Every player starts with 100 KST given to you by the server.

Bear in mind that allowing users to purchase non-cosmetics this way is a breach of Mojang's license. I don't know what you're selling via AdminShops, but if you're offering eg diamonds for krist, that's a no-no.

https://mojang.com/2...r-monetisation/

While that is fair, with all due respect, Krist doesn't really have any monetary value and is not "real-world cash". So I can't really see any issue. It's a currency, but essentially a fictitious one that's essentially isolated to Minecraft anyway.

Memory limit, set at 1MB (not 1MiB) in the arcade

I take it that's memory, not storage. Could be a fun challenge, the Luo compiler is definitely surpassing 2MB at the moment...

Now using Lua 5.3.

getModifiedTime, getNameWithoutExtension, mount
Awwww yeahhhhhhh!

getPowerStatus() : string, int - `powerStatus, chargeLevel`, `powerStatus` is either `'unpowered'`, `'charged'`, `'charging'`, `'discharging'` or `'fixed'`

Interesting... seems to hint that Dan has some cool plans for the future!

Quote

getTime() : float - time as seconds since 12:00:00 January 1 0001 (0001-01-01T12:00:00.00)
resetTime() - reset the time to UTC

Glad to see we have access to the real world time now, can you explain what is meant by resetTime though? There doesn't seem to be anything to set it. Can you change the timezone?

Interested to see what's possible with the speaker. I haven't done much stuff with sound, but I take it that it's fairly basic?

#261142 CraftOS 2.0 - Dan's Secret Project

Posted by oeed on 28 October 2016 - 04:20 AM in General

Awesome!

For things like Silica which will need to manually draw their pixels, rather than using the GPU, what is the fastest way to draw the entire screen?

Is using drawImage faster than repeatedly calling drawPixel, or does drawImage just call drawPixel itself (like paintuils)?
