#186672 Idea Exchange

Posted by awsmazinggenius on 03 July 2014 - 04:36 AM in General

If I recall correctly, CC only executes 1 computer's script at a time. Speed won't increase, but it's still a cool idea and I'd like to see a proof of concept.

#186661 Bundled Cable API AND Direct Support

Posted by awsmazinggenius on 03 July 2014 - 02:23 AM in Suggestions

So this suggestion is pretty simple, but basically mod authors have been a bit resistant to implement CC's API. This basically suggests that CC reimplements support for the popular cables like MFR and Project: Red, but keeps the API so that others can implement support for their own cables, too. That way, users can use the popular cables even though mod authors don't really care to add support, but if someone is writing a mod they can implement support themself too. Thoughts?

#186300 I wrote a JavaScript->Lua converter, called Pinecone

If you hate Lua, MoonScript is great too and is intended to be compiled to Lua. Still a neat idea though.

#186299 Recommended OSes for CC 1.53?

Why not use the latest recommended FTB pack?

#185855 Mimic - ComputerCraft Web Emulator (HTML5)

The blue look of the sidebar is a bit ugly. Could you change it back?

#185850 Donate buttons on programs?

Posted by awsmazinggenius on 27 June 2014 - 03:07 PM in Forum Discussion

This came up out of curiosity after reading CCGrimHaxor's Forum Questions topic. Basically, can you have a donate button on the topics for your programs?

#185358 OneOS Version 2 - The All in One Operating System

Posted by awsmazinggenius on 24 June 2014 - 02:33 AM in Operating Systems

Looking at the code for that simple program, it looks really easy to make programs if you use the API. Unfortunately, I can't use it, because if I were to ever get around to releasing my programs, it would be critical that they work on CraftOS, and it's not practical to separately distribute those API files unless you were to minify and concatenate them, and under the license you can't distribute modified versions.

#185357 [CC 1.63] MFR Rednet cable support

Posted by awsmazinggenius on 24 June 2014 - 02:24 AM in General

There already is a mod you can use for this. OpenComputers can send and receive ComputerCraft modem messages, and use bundled cables from MFR (and other mods). Write your program to send modem messages to an OC computer, then write an OC program to receive those messages and emit Redstone/Bundled Cable signals. Also, it seems that theoriginalbit plans on adding this into his MoarPeripherals mod if he hasn't already.

#185059 Minecraft usernames added to profiles?

Added my name to my profile. Thanks for adding this!

#185002 "Open Link" function

Posted by awsmazinggenius on 21 June 2014 - 03:46 PM in Suggestions

By default, in Minecraft, you are prompted before opening links, allowing the user to decide whether they want to open the link. This feature could be useful for many things, like a link to email or Skype chat with the program author, so I support it.

#184991 Minecraft usernames added to profiles?

Posted by awsmazinggenius on 21 June 2014 - 01:44 PM in Forum Discussion

On the Minecraft forums, your Location and your Minecraft name shows, so clearly it is possible. I guess the "You have to go to the profile to see it" thing is just that "It doesn't need to be crazy visible, it's only really use in the Servers section anyways."

#184924 Minecraft usernames added to profiles?

Posted by awsmazinggenius on 20 June 2014 - 09:58 PM in Forum Discussion

On other IP.Board installations (like the Minecraft Forums), they've added a thing to your profile where you can add a Minecraft username. That username shows under your avatar when you post, near your Location. It would be useful for things like the Servers section, so that when you post that you are having an issue they can see your username and they don't have to ask you for it.

#184054 CCJam: Results In!

Posted by awsmazinggenius on 16 June 2014 - 02:47 AM in General

Yeah, I could tell you were in need of a slightly better website (Simple Bootstrap page (you can use Bootstrap with your own CSS (preferably Less, but whatever.), not using semantic elements properly (div instead of nav for the navbar?!?), etc.) I can kinda-sorta do web design (I can send you the source code of a website (the site looks nice, but the code looks bad.) if you'd like. I'm much better then when I made that site now though.). Though I like to use HTML/CSS and keep JS out of the picture (except for polyfills and Ajax), I can do JS if required. If you need server-side stuff, which is unlikely, but whatever, I can do some Ruby on Rails, which I much prefer to PHP for various personal reasons.

EDIT: Forgot to actually offer my help! Yeah, shoot me a pm if you want my help.

#184041 OneOS Version 2 - The All in One Operating System

Posted by awsmazinggenius on 16 June 2014 - 12:16 AM in Operating Systems

Well, it could just be useful to add extra highlighting for different functions, like the functions for an API.

#183961 OneOS Version 2 - The All in One Operating System

Posted by awsmazinggenius on 15 June 2014 - 02:03 PM in Operating Systems

So it is something awesome. Though that screenie you posted didn't have syntax highlighting. Will that be added later?

Also, some people do use other languages. GravityScore's Brainfuck interpreter, someone made a peripheral for Jython a while back, etc.

#183857 OneOS Version 2 - The All in One Operating System

Just wondering, what's the status on 1.2? It seems that your exams should be over with, so I'm wondering if it's new features or something awesome like that.

#183856 Sketch - Photoshop Inspired Image Editor for ComputerCraft

Posted by awsmazinggenius on 14 June 2014 - 10:18 PM in Programs

Now that this is bumped, it seems that you use the serialization from textutils to serialize data. Have you considered copy-pasting the old CC1.58 textutils.serialize() function into your code to make file sizes smaller, as CC1.6 now serializes in a pretty fashion rather than a compact fashion? You can still unserialize data serialized with the old function with the current textutils.unserialize(), so it would give a smaller file.

#183854 Post your desktop!

Posted by awsmazinggenius on 14 June 2014 - 10:13 PM in General

Having desktop stats isn't a priority for me, just something that is interesting. I don't know the feasibility of this, but it would be neat if someone made a compatibility layer for existing Rainmeter skins to work on OS X.

#183767 Post your desktop!

Posted by awsmazinggenius on 14 June 2014 - 02:54 AM in General

I actually wanna have a go at making a Rainmeter skin just for the heck of it and as a bit of a learning experience (although they do use Lua...), even though I primarily use OS X (Windows through Parallels primarily, though I do have a few Windows PCs.) I actually wonder if I could put rainmeter widgets on my OS X desktop through parallels's "Like a Mac" mode, though I have a feeling it might not work that well.

#183766 CCJam: Results In!

Posted by awsmazinggenius on 14 June 2014 - 02:46 AM in General

Been taking care of stuff out of town for a few days (also flying away on a holiday), glad to be on time for CCJam! I won't be entering though, I want to work on my long overdue website.

I tried connecting to "https://github.com", and it worked. I chose that because it is https, which you were complaining about, and it is not normally whitelisted by default in 1.63. I'm on OS X 10.10 (the beta for Yosemite) by the way, if that helps.

#182711 Apple's New Programming Langauge - "Swift"

Posted by awsmazinggenius on 07 June 2014 - 05:19 AM in General

(I haven't tried Swift yet, it just seems cool, looking at the iBook documentation and stuff. Sorry for any confusion.)

I wish I was registered as an OS X developer, that UI is so awesome. That icon for the Finder seems, well, odd to me though. I was wondering why Apple didn't give OS X a flat look in Mavericks to match iOS, but here it is, I guess. I am definitely a fan of the new iOS UI, and I like this new UI too.

EDIT: Looks like I made the first 1 million (knowing my luck, I was probably the millionth person :)) to try out Yosemite as a customer in Apple's beta program. Yay. Sexy UI. I (think) I'll be able to use Swift too. (Waiting for the install to finish right now :))

#182709 Lua Version?

Posted by awsmazinggenius on 07 June 2014 - 05:11 AM in Ask a Pro

Which could just be rewritten/modified to use the global _ENV to make environments rather than getfenv/setfenv.
