Damn, you stole my line. :P

Although, the correct wording would be 'Ask it what the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything is.'
Meh, I have a HUGE list of books, and I don't order by importance, but by time I hear of them. This means I read every single book so I can get to the next one, and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is somewhere on there and I haven't gotten to it, just wanted to beat everyone.

#165663 Open Source Novel?

The difficulty with collaborative fiction is that the style, tone, and vocabulary of different authors rarely will match well enough to develop a cohesive novel
This is why there would be the head writer, who would edit it a little to make it cohesive, and almost kind of blend it together, and flush out inconsistencies.

The main problem I can see if you were to make every bit editable, besides people just Command + A, deleting it, is the almost certain presence of something along the lines of this:
I think it shouldn't be editable, there should be submissions, that are judged, and probably edited. Things are chosen, not just added.

#165577 Open Source Novel?

Posted by Mailmanq! on 20 February 2014 - 08:07 PM in General

This idea is one I have had in my mind for about a month now. This idea is one where, there is a basic idea and plot for a novel, but then people can contribute, they can contribute little sections, whole chapters, or simply just ideas. This could make a great novel from a great idea using several people that do a little work for something big, and this is not a collaborative process, there is someone in charge who is running it, and decide what goes in it or not.

This is an idea I want your opinions on and think that it would work well. If this could work through a subreddit and a website with the current status of the novel.

P.S. The reason I placed it on this forum is that I need a forum to ask about this, and I do not know of any where this pertains to the topic, so here is the one I am most a part of and has very nice members.

DNews is a great channel, they upload two sciencey type (I said sciencey type, some are a bit different). Every week, they have at least one space video, and every so often they upload a documentary review, they call it "Screen Room".

I draw a new background every week. This one almost looks like it is moving, I think that the desktop is fairly organized. I am running Windows 8 just because it is nice. I have StartIsBack, and have a cool start button.

Yeah, I just like need to like punch something every time people use obviously wrong grammar. But there were two legitimate questions in there.

Don't be cynical, it's probably quite a bit of work for him if he's just starting.

It had nothing to do with VOS. I was asking him what he meant. I know it would be mean if like he has little experience with English, but to my knowledge this is not true.

#109952 [Question] [Lua] How to make a program restart?

Posted by Mailmanq! on 14 April 2013 - 01:43 PM in Ask a Pro

This code is very messed up. I don't even know where to start. It has so much code that makes me explode because it uses undeclared variables and such. It looks like you just made up functions that you think should exist and used them, but didn't even make them. Also giving your age is a bad idea, because people think of you differently when they know of it. This is something you can't control. It is best just not to tell.

Try to explain what it is supposed to do. If I have an idea I could probably help.

#109600 your way of coding?

Posted by Mailmanq! on 13 April 2013 - 10:48 AM in General

With small things, I just type the code out. With medium sized things I have functions that are all run at the bottom of the program with very descriptive names to help with debugging. And with big projects I have multiple files and use dofile to load them and call their functions with a priority level define at the top of the file I am loading.

#109598 Why Lua for CC?

Posted by Mailmanq! on 13 April 2013 - 10:39 AM in General

Lua also has amazing documentation. It is simple for people new to programming and not too crazy for people who have used other languages to get. It combines the best of all the languages. It is just Lua and awesome like that. Javascript would be a good option too as stated above, but Lua has just been used for many things embedded into other things n' stuff. I don't know what I am talking about anymore.

Edit: The ~= still just seems like they were trying to be different.
