When suggesting something you should think about what it does for the mod, not what it does for you.

He didn't JUST suggest that, you know. And I can see a bunch of uses for this making THE MOD better too.
I know he suggested more than just that. But the point of a suggestion is to convince the authors why a suggestion will help the mod out. If they accepted every suggestion to help one person out the mod will be total crap.
It helps a lot of people out, and allows them to use those hotkeys for the right-control without worry of triggering the system hotkeys.

This would be great.

#124661 explosive turtles?

Posted by JJRcop on 08 June 2013 - 10:34 AM in Suggestions

You could also get the turtle to bury the payload, maybe even with some blocks of obsidian. If it's a nuke then everything else will be destroyed except for a cone starting from the obsidian and expanding to the sky.

#122443 [1.8+] PDA Peripheral Suit (Chest, Legs, Feet)

Posted by JJRcop on 31 May 2013 - 08:37 PM in Suggestions

A HUD helmet peripheral was suggested for the short-term future here.

I am suggesting a feature set, for the longer-term future, since it isn't as important to me as the other ideas I see here, and features that are currently in development by dan, and cloudy.
I suggest three peripherals for the PDA that the user may wear, and will allow the PDA to gather more information, about the user.

A chest peripheral that allows the PDA to gather information about the user's health, hunger, breath, experience level, and inventory. (Am I forgetting anything?)
A legs peripheral that lets the PDA get information about whatever the user is riding, if anything.
And a boots peripheral that gives the PDA information on the block the user is standing on. (Or flying/swimming in if that is the case.)

#122439 Computer helmet with HUD

Ideas for potential programs:

Creeper Warning - Alerts the player if a creeper is within 8 blocks of him/her.
Durability Monitor - Keeps the amount of durability of the current item in hand on screen
(Might be overpowered) Health Labels - Shows the health of any mob/player you look at, under their nametag (if applicable)
(MBO) Party Status - Make a party of up to 3 players, and the HUD shows the other party members' stats (health, hunger, armor, etc.)
Clock - Shows time in either ticks, AM/PM, or the default minecraft clock.
(MBO) Millimeter Scanner - Similar to the Black Ops 2 weapon attachment, it x-ray detects nearby players. (3-5 blocks, I would think.)
Monitor Watch - Can tune into monitor/turtle/computer displays, but would need confirmation from turtles/computers.
News Updates - A host computer could run a headline program, and when an op/mod updates the headline, it notifies the HUD user.
Turtle Monitor - (Already suggested, like, 20 times) Monitors status of your turtles, could have turtles broadcast status to computers as well.
Damage Direction - As in most FPS games, shows a red area in the general direction you got hit from
Ammo (arrow) Checker - When you have a bow without Infinity, it shows a FPS style ammo counter. For bows with infinity, just shows the infinity symbol for the arrow counter

Just some ideas.
The idea is that it's simply a peripheral for the PDA that acts like the computer screen except it doesn't have a background to it and it's always up. (Of course type input would only come from the PDA itself.)

If you want any of that then we'll need a chest-based PDA peripheral for user-status input like health, hunger, and inventory.

#121900 Why refer to Rednet as a "wrapper" of Channels? It's much more useful than that!

Posted by JJRcop on 29 May 2013 - 11:25 PM in General

You're right. While I don't believe that everyone who chooses to use rednet is dumb, I definitely did leave enough loose ends open for someone to easily take it that way. I'm sorry.

I think rednet is inadvisable if you know what you're doing, but it does help simplify things to people who don't.

This is simply not true. It's good to use rednet if your use case doesn't require more. It's easier to create tools and have things work interoperably if people use similar standards (i.e., rednet). I would encourage direct use of modem methods only if the use case cannot otherwise function with the rednet API.

But rednet is so easy to spoof! You can just change the reply channel and act like you're another computer. Also, I used the word 'think', so that means it is my personal opinion, not a fact or unanimously agreed standard.

#121320 Unlock "option to remove screens for turtles"

Posted by JJRcop on 27 May 2013 - 08:55 PM in Suggestions

Yeah a BIOS edit is what I started thinking of when my topic was locked.

I just kinda thought of it because the turtle robot that turtles were inspired by have no screens to put in code. (edit: And to prove a point.)

#120542 Turtle disguises

This is a pretty awesome suggestion, but unfortunately it does not seem to be worth their time. It would be awesome for a peripheral addition though!

#120437 Option to remove screens for turtles.

Posted by JJRcop on 24 May 2013 - 12:57 PM in Suggestions

I suggest we get an option in the turtle config file to remove the screens for turtles, the right-click menu would be instead replaced with their inventory.

The turtle that they were based on doesn't have a screen, you have to program it via external means, and I think that would be a cool optional feature for ComputerCraft.

Based on a post I made a couple days ago

Actually, let's imagine turtles without screens, where you would have to install all the programs via a disk drive, and where you would have to need wireless turtles to get the same amount of interactivity we have right now.

#119887 A surprising amount of lua pastebins are CC scripts.

Posted by JJRcop on 22 May 2013 - 07:52 PM in General

I just noticed this now. On the pastebin page that shows recent pastes tagged with the syntax of "Lua", most of what I see are ComputerCraft scripts and file data.

http://pastebin.com/archive/lua

EDIT: Upon closer inspection, essentially the entire page is CC scripts except for a small number of exceptions.

The helmets wouldn't run the code, the upcoming PDAs would. The PDAs would wrap/call it with the name "helmet" or whatever they decide to call it, and use it like a monitor.
That is excactly how I want it! But I think it might be nice if you could get some information about what's currently selected in the hotbar which would be useful for some things, for example print how many uses your currently equipted tool has left.

That sounds more like a chestplate peripheral for inventory input.

#119836 Get turtle coords

Posted by JJRcop on 22 May 2013 - 04:04 PM in Suggestions

You don't even need that! [The included gps program] Just override the GPS API to instead use a stored coordinate position and rotation, and override the turtle move functions to commit to the stored position.

It's much more reliable.

#119835 Advanced turtles

Posted by JJRcop on 22 May 2013 - 04:02 PM in Suggestions

Well if that doesn't happen, then I see no point for advanced turtles. You don't need anything fancy for their screens because once they move far enough away you can't even access the screens. In fact, the screen isn't exactly needed in the first place, but it's there anyway.

Actually, let's imagine turtles without screens, where you would have to install all the programs via a disk drive, and where you would have to need wireless turtles to get the same amount of interactivity we have right now.

It would be much more realistic, and that's good, right?

#119625 Advanced turtles

Maybe Advanced Turtles could be made with obsidian instead of gold, then their bonus would be explosion resistance.

#113657 Turtle Enchantments

I thought the suggestion was to be able to enchant turtles to give them different buffs like speed and decreased fuel consumption.

But this is cool too.

#113556 mods?

Posted by JJRcop on 23 April 2013 - 09:06 AM in General

I don't like "ComputerCraft oriented" servers that have redpower in them. Because people just then use Redpower machines instead of CC. (This is from my personal experience.)
