Trying to do this without mentioning his name, as a few in the party may recognize the name despite not knowing the man
@Cranium: If Nico mentions not having funds, I'm sure Will will supply funds for him, as he currently feels most of the opponents are easily outmatched by him, as opposed to Nico who looks like he would put up a better fight.

"Let's get started! First on the list is..." It's the guy who gave you the flyer, in his had is another wad of paper, which he is reading from. "...James and David."

Two men step into the chalk circle, the first (James) is wearing just a padded tunic and leggings, second (David) is covered in plate armour from head to foot. The contestants shake hands and back up 2 steps. Then they draw their weapons, James has a short sword and a small wooden shield. While David has a huge axe.

In his first swing, David shatters James' shield, sending splinters of wood in every direction. James gives a short scream of pain, and grabs his shield arm with his other hand. David lifts his axe back into a ready position and waits. James moves in for a strike, his shield arm still close to his chest. David doesn't flinch, seeming to give James a free attack. James strikes again, rebounding once more off the metal plates which covers David's body.

David raises his axe fully, and fakes a swing. James half leaps and half falls backwards, landing on his back. David takes this opportunity to replicate a killing blow, gently lowering his axe onto James' chest.

"David wins, and goes to the next round!" The announcer yells.

David reaches down to help James back onto his feet, lifting his visor with his other hand. They walk off towards the nearby infirmary tent.

"You there, bear. You look like you want to join but can't." A butcher shouts. "I'll sponsor you if you promise me something. Win the competition and split the earnings fifty-fifty. If you don't win then hunt meat for me."

The announcer calls forward two more people, they look more evenly matched. Both are wearing chain-mail with one wielding a wood axe and the other a shield and mace.

Arcum is wearing a leather tunic with worn leggings (leather) and is fixing up his quiver, and his bow looks like its almost-new.

Will starts wrapping a small dagger with thick cloth, and then heads to the fletcher and asks "Can I get a few arrows? The terrain around is quite narrow" he says as he lays down two silver coins.

Just a note for those reading his character file: Yes, Will has no bow. He has different plans for the arrows

[/OOC]A little more like this, only not necessarily as quite as effective as the arrows aren't as strong (would break/get stuck after one target) and he's not fighting to kill[/OOC]

"You'll be wanting a bow with those son." The fletcher replies, taking the coins and pulling out a small bundle of arrows and a single copper coin. "Your change, and thirteen arrows. Are you sure I can't persuade you to purchase a bow? A friend of mine gave me a nice selection to sell on her behalf."

With a cheer from the crowds, another match is complete. Two names obviously not belonging to a single person are called, two teams assemble with their wrapped weapons. It looks an even match, with light armour but small numbers on one side and a larger group armed with farming equipment on the other.

"I have a different way to launch than a bow. If you watch the match, the way I will show." Will replies.

"Throwing them doesn't work." The fletcher responds without looking up from his work.

With another match over, the next are announced. "Will and Tom." On the opposite side of the arena, a man stands up. He has chain mail head to foot and a long sword at his hip.

Nico glances at the man offering to sponsor, "And why would you do such a thing? I do not know you, do I?"
Nico sniffs the man, trying to get a scent and see if he's met the man before.

Will places the arrows in his bag, then walks into the arena and pulls out a silver flute.

Before battle, Arcum replaces the sharp arrow heads with sharp-ish stones. (To not cause death but to cause injury)

"I can see that you want to fight, and are more than capable of it. I enjoy watching but so far I have found these rather dull." The sponsor replies.

As customary in the arena, Tom reaches out to shake his opponent's hand. "A recorder? You're going to fight me with a recorder?"

Will shakes his hand and replies "Actually my friend, this is a flute, but if you rather, I could use my lute. There is a bit of magic in my song, I hope you don't find that as something wrong."

[OOC]And that is the whole reason for my choices in instruments. Hopefully Tom has a little bit of magic himself, to make this a bit more interesting of a fight.[/OOC]

The pair of combatants separate a short distance and the match begins. Tom charges in to lash out with his sword, his swings are wide and wild.

Meanwhile Nico's potential sponsor replies. "I just enjoy a good show, and am rather bored of what I've seen so far. I believe that you will help ease my boredom by contending."

Arcum finishes making his arrows, safer. He puts them back into his quiver and dusts off his bow then gets closer to the arena to watch the battle and wait for his time.

Will takes two arrows from his bag and throws them in the air while Tom charges, then starts playing a song causing them to fly towards Tom.

Tom swats one of them out of the air with his sword, cracking the wooden shaft. The other fails to dig into his armour.
